DECOMPOSITION TIME

Let’s keep our waters clean!

Banana peel, 3 – 4 wks

Paper, 3 to 6 mos.

Cloth, 6 mos – 1 yr.

Bubble gum, 5 yrs.

Cigarette filter, 5 yrs.

Painted wood, 13 yrs.

Nylon, more than 30 yrs.

Leather shoes, 40 – 50 yrs.

Tin cans, 50 – 100 yrs.

Metal, Plastics & Plastic bags, more than 100 yrs.

Aluminum, 200 – 500 yrs.

Disposable diapers, 500 – 600 yrs.

Glass, one million yrs.

Rubber, undetermined time

Styrofoam, eternity

Biometric waste (soiled bandages, used needles, syringes, human parts, soiled instruments) these are infectious and require careful handling

Toxic waste (used batteries, expired medicines, paints, toxic chemicals, insecticides, pesticides, etc.) these can harm human health and the environment

Construction waste (bricks, concrete, fiber, glass, metal scrap, etc.) these can harm human and these require careful handling.
